Privacy policy
Effective 2026-10-13.
Mb Studio is a desktop app that runs on your computer. It has no account and no telemetry, and the project runs no server that the app talks to. We don’t collect, store, sell or share any personal information.
This policy is published at https://mbstudio.nilpointer.tech/privacy/.
What stays on your computer
- Connections: the connections you save, including names, sites, hosts, ports, serial port settings and SSH tunnel settings, are stored on your computer. SSH passwords and key passphrases go to your system’s credential store (Windows Credential Manager, macOS Keychain, or Secret Service on Linux), or to an encrypted file on your computer where there is none. A password is sent only to the SSH server you set up; a passphrase never leaves your computer.
- Your devices: the app talks only to the Modbus devices, gateways and serial adapters you set up, the SSH servers you route connections through, and the built-in simulator if you start it. It reads and writes registers and coils only when you ask it to: opening a device, polling a register, changing a value, running a scan or a block write.
- Register maps and recordings: map files, CSV exports and session recordings are saved only where you choose.
- Log file: the app writes a log of its own activity and errors to your computer, to help diagnose problems: app start and exit, connection names, hosts and ports, failed or slow operations, timings and crashes. It never contains frame contents, register values, passwords or passphrases. It is never sent anywhere; you can open its folder from the app (Ctrl+K or Cmd+K, “Open logs folder”) and delete it at any time.
